Posted: 18th February 2025

As part of the IMYC theme on Identity, Greenoak International School, Secondary (GIS) students took part in an educational excursion to explore Spanish culture through food. Their visit to Taco Foods provided a hands-on learning experience, helping them understand how cuisine reflects heritage, tradition, and national identity.

During the visit, students sampled a variety of authentic Mexican and Spanish dishes, broadening their appreciation for different cultures. They tried enchiladas, tacos, churros, and tortilla española. Through these flavours, they gained insight into the cultural significance of food and its role in shaping identity.

Beyond tasting different meals, students learned about the origins and history of these traditional dishes, how ingredients vary across regions, and how food connects communities. The experience highlighted the importance of cultural appreciation and global awareness, reinforcing the idea that learning extends beyond the classroom.

At GIS, we encourage immersive and engaging education, and this Spanish excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to explore identity in a meaningful way.
