Primary School Hybrid Curriculum

At Greenoak, learning is engaging, educational, inspiring, and fun. As well as imparting knowledge, skills, and understanding, our faculty go the extra mile to engage pupils in what is called ‘Active Learning’. Active Learning involves creating and delivering lessons to pupils resulting in a much higher engagement in their learning. This approach to learning results in reflective and thoughtful education rather than simply being a passive recipient of information.

GIS’s Primary Campus operates a hybrid curriculum comprising of the following points:

British Curriculum

The British Curriculum provides a curriculum framework to develop the following skills:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Science skills
  • The Arts
  • Social Sciences
  • Life Skills

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

The IPC delivers an education that delivers practical, investigative, and problem-solving tasks related to real-life situations.

To facilitate the delivery of such an innovative curriculum, our faculty is comprised of highly motivated and experienced teachers who receive continual professional development and scheduled training sessions multiple times a year. This is done to ensure GIS faculty applies the best practices of internationally based research and teaching techniques for lesson delivery.

This curriculum framework prepares students for the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Examinations in Grade 6 which is the foundation for secondary education.

Nigerian Curriculum

The Nigerian Curriculum provides GIS students with knowledge of their host country while preparing them adequately for secondary education.

Students that have been introduced to the curriculum in their primary education are better placed and prepared for the West African Examination Council when they get to secondary level.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint (CPC) derives from the Cambridge Assessment International Education – the world’s largest provider of education programmes and qualifications for 5−19-year-olds. The CPC helps learners at the end of primary education understand their abilities in core subject areas like English, Mathematics, and Science.

The CPC tests skills and knowledge at the end of stages 4–6 of the curriculum for English and Mathematics and stages 3–6 of the curriculum for Science.
