Primary School Aviation Excursion

Our Grade 5 pupils recently visited Bristow Helicopters Nigeria for a Primary School Aviation Excursion. They were introduced to real-life aviation operations. The excursion supported their understanding of transport systems while giving them a close look at how helicopters are managed, and operated.

During the visit, the pupils were taken through the hangar and other key areas within the facility. Aviation personnel explained how helicopters are inspected, and prepared before flights. The students also had the chance to step inside a helicopter, observe the cockpit, and explore the seating arrangement, making the experience both engaging and practical.

Highlights From the Aviation Excursion

Under the guidance of Bristow staff, the pupils learnt several important aspects of helicopter operations, including:

  • Basic boarding procedures, such as how passengers approach the aircraft and why they follow specific instructions.
  • Essential safety rules, including maintaining a safe distance from the helicopter and paying attention to crew briefings.
  • Basic Helicopter features and controls, giving them a clearer understanding of how the aircraft functions during flight.
  • Maintenance routines, including how engineers check, and certify helicopters before they are cleared to fly.
  • Roles within aviation, offering exposure to different careers and responsibilities across the industry.

A Valuable Educational Experience

The Primary School Aviation Excursion at Bristow Nigeria provided the pupils with meaningful, real-world learning that strengthened their curiosity and broadened their understanding of modern transportation. It also encouraged them to ask thoughtful questions and connect what they learnt in class with real aviation processes.

Experiences like this form an important part of Greenoak International School’s approach to learning. By taking students beyond the classroom, GIS helps them explore different industries, engage with professionals, and build a deeper understanding of how the world works.
